I love the Victorian era so when I heard about Victorian October aka #victober on BookTube I knew I needed to participate. In the book nerd world, there’s nothing better than a month long read-a-thon.
But what is Victober exactly? Victober is a month long event held in October when we’re supposed to read books written in the Victorian era (1837 – 1901) by authors from the UK. This year it is hosted by 4 BookTubers: Beyond the Pages, Books and Things, Kate Howe and lucythereader. We have some challenges (if we want to go all in):
- Read a Victorian book by a Irish, Scottish or Welsh author
- Read a Victorian book that was recommended to you
- Read a supernatural Victorian book
- Read a lesser known Victorian book
- Read a Victorian book by a female author
I will compile my TBR from books I already own. This way I will also work towards one of my 2017 reading goals, aka #readmyowndamnbooks. All of these books are well known classics and I’m looking forward to reading at least one of them during October.
- Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë (this one will be a reread)
- The Picture of Dorian Grey by Oscar Wilde
- Villette by Charlotte Brontë
- Middlemarch by George Eliot
Other books which can be picked up include Dracula by Bram Stoker, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë, The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins, Agnes Grey by Anne Brontë and Far from the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy.
Happy reading!
